Sleep Staging with Frontopolar EEG Derivation
نویسنده
چکیده
Patients suffering from sleep disorders, especially respiratory disorders, are often investigated by all-night ambulatory home recordings instead of extended polysomnographic in-laboratory studies. Reasons for this are lower costs and long waiting lists to sleep laboratories. Special ambulatory recording equipment has been developed for these home recordings (1). In some instances sleep electroencephalography (EEG) is not recorded. However, even one EEG electrode could be of substantial aid in differentiating non-REM (NREM) from REM sleep, estimating the quality and depth of NREM sleep and measuring in a reliable way the amount of sleep during the night. Unfortunately, the EEG electrode might become detached during the night in home recordings. Often a skilled technician is required for attaching the most commonly used central EEG-electrode (C3 or C4). Because of Sleep Staging with Frontopolar EEG Derivation

Automatic Estimation of Wakefulness and Sleep Using Electro-oculography
There are large development efforts directed toward unobtrusive methods for the monitoring of wakefulness and sleep. When testing these devices also the reference testing method should be easy to use and analyse. It is known that frontopolar electroencephalographic (EEG) and electro-oculography (EOG) electrodes outside the hairline can be used for sleep staging. We have recently demonstrated th...
متن کاملA study of sleep staging based on a sample entropy analysis of electroencephalogram.
In this paper we report a detection method for different sleep stages and it is based on a single-channel electroencephalogram (EEG) system. The system is simple and can be easily setup in homes to perform sleep EEG recording, overnight sleep EEG automatic staging, and sleep quality evaluation. EEG data of 14 sleeping subjects were recorded through the entire night. All subjects were within the...
متن کاملFASTER: an unsupervised fully automated sleep staging method for mice
Identifying the stages of sleep, or sleep staging, is an unavoidable step in sleep research and typically requires visual inspection of electroencephalography (EEG) and electromyography (EMG) data. Currently, scoring is slow, biased and prone to error by humans and thus is the most important bottleneck for large-scale sleep research in animals. We have developed an unsupervised, fully automated...
متن کاملRegional differences of the sleep electroencephalogram in adolescents.
The sleep electroencephalogram (EEG) was recorded from anterior (Fz/Cz) and posterior (Pz/Oz) bipolar derivations in two developmental groups: 20 pre- or early pubertal (Tanner 1/2, mean age 11.4 +/- 1.1 years, 11 boys) and 20 late pubertal or mature adolescents (Tanner 4/5, 14.1 +/- 1.3 years, 8 boys). A sleep-state independent reduction of EEG power over almost the entire frequency range was ...
متن کاملIntroduction of low to high frequencies bispectrum rate feature for deep sleep detection from awakening by electroencephalogram
Background: Accurate detection of deep sleep (Due to the low frequency of the brain signal in this part of sleep, it is also called slow-wave sleep) from awakening increases the sleep staging accuracy as an important factor in medicine. Depending on the time and cost of manually determining the depth of sleep, we can automatically determine the depth of sleep by electroencephalogram (EEG) signa...
